All submissions to IBIS undergo a rigorous peer-review process to ensure the quality and validity of the published research. The journal operates a double-blind peer review process, meaning that the authors and the reviewers are anonymous. The review process is carried out by experts in the relevant fields of study, who evaluate the submitted manuscripts based on their scientific merit, originality, and relevance to the journal's scope.
1. Initial Screening
Upon receiving a manuscript, the editorial board conducts an initial screening to confirm it fits the journal’s scope and complies with publication guidelines. Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria or have a similarity index exceeding 20% are immediately rejected. The editorial office also checks formatting and citation styles. Manuscripts that do not adhere to these standards are returned to the authors for corrections and resubmission. Successful submissions proceed to the next stage.
2. Reviewer Assignment
The editorial board assigns two independent reviewers who are experts in the manuscript’s field. Both authors and reviewers remain anonymous. Author names, acknowledgments, and contributions are omitted from the manuscript and placed in a separate title page file. Invitations are sent to reviewers from different institutions than the authors. Reviewers consider their expertise, potential conflicts of interest, and other criteria before accepting. Reviewer assignments are typically completed within two weeks.
3. Review Process
Reviewers assess the manuscript for scientific quality, originality, validity, and relevance to the field. They have two weeks to complete their review and provide constructive feedback. Reviewers make recommendations on whether the manuscript should be accepted, rejected, or revised.
4. Editorial Decision
Based on the reviewers' feedback and adherence to publication standards, the editor-in-chief makes the final decision on the manuscript. If there is significant discrepancy in the reviewers' comments, an additional reviewer may be consulted. The decision, along with anonymous reviewers' comments, is communicated to the author via the online system. The time from submission to first decision averages one month, and from acceptance to publication takes 2-4 weeks.
5. Revision and Resubmission
For manuscripts requiring revision, authors are asked to address the reviewers’ feedback and resubmit the manuscript. The resubmission must include a revised manuscript with highlighted changes and a rebuttal letter. Authors are given two weeks for minor revisions and four weeks for major revisions. Major revisions undergo another round of review by the same reviewers to ensure feedback has been adequately addressed. Minor revisions may not require additional review.
6. Final Publication
Once a manuscript is accepted, authors submit the final version, which undergoes copyediting and formatting before publication in the journal.
This comprehensive peer-review process ensures that all manuscripts submitted to the International Journal of Islamic Business and Economics are evaluated with the highest standards of scientific integrity and ethical conduct, ensuring the publication of only the highest quality research.
